Participation of the Minister of Foreign Affairs in the virtual side event "Climate change and water under Covid-19"

On 12 July 2021, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Tajikistan Mr. Sirojiddin Muhriddin participated in and addressed a side event entitled “Climate change and water under Covid-19”, which was organized by Tajikistan and Japan on the margins of the High-level Political Forum 2021 (HLPF-2021).

In his statement, the Minister of Foreign Affairs highlighted the significant increase in the number of natural water-related disasters which annually cause a great damage to the country's economy and undermine efforts to achieve sustainable development.

Minister Muhriddin also drew the international community's attention to the problem of melting of glaciers worldwide and has mentioned the proposal of the President of Tajikistan to proclaim 2025 as the International Year of Glaciers' Preservation.
