On December 10, 2019, in Brussels the delegation of the Republic of Tajikistan headed by the Minister of Foreign Affairs Sirojiddin Muhriddin took part in the Eighth Meeting of Cooperation Council between the Republic of Tajikistan and the European Union. The EU delegation was chaired by the Minister of Foreign and European Affairs of the Republic of Croatia Gordan Grlić Radman.
The agenda of the meeting covered the key aspects of partnership and cooperation between the Republic of Tajikistan and the EU, political and economic issues, human rights, as well as international and regional topics.
During the Cooperation Council meeting, the sides discussed the current state and prospects for the development of relations between Tajikistan and the EU, as well as further ways to expand mutually beneficial cooperation. The main areas of cooperation, trade-economic ties, energy, ensuring border security, fight against terrorism and extremism, as well as regional cooperation in the framework of the new EU Strategy on Central Asia were touched upon.
Following the meeting, press conference was held with the participation of the heads of delegations of Tajikistan and the European Union, the sides expressed satisfaction with the results of the meeting, and confirmed their interest for the continuation of constructive dialogue.
