Relations between the Republic of Tajikistan and the Republic of Korea

Diplomatic relations between the Republic of Tajikistan and the Republic of Korea were established on April 27, 1992.

The Embassy of the Republic of Tajikistan in the Republic of Korea was opened on April 13, 2015, and the Embassy of the Republic of Korea in the Republic of Tajikistan on June 20, 2008. Currently, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Tajikistan to the Republic of Korea is Kirom Salohiddin Amriddinzoda and the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Korea to the Republic of Tajikistan is Jeon Sung Sik.

The treaty and legal framework of the two countries is formed by 20 documents of intergovernmental and interagency co-operation.

On 24-25 May 2005, the Founder of Peace and National Unity - Leader of the Nation, President of the Republic of Tajikistan H.E. Mr. Emomali Rahmon paid a working visit to the Republic of Korea. During the trip, H.E. Mr. Emomali Rahmon met with the leadership of this country and visited transnational corporations.

On 12-17 April 2015, the President of the Republic of Tajikistan, H.E. Mr. Emomali Rahmon paid an official visit to the Republic of Korea and also to participate in the 7th World Water Forum.

On 15-17 July 2019, at the invitation of Prime Minister of the Republic of Tajikistan Kohir Rasulzoda, Prime Minister of the Republic of Korea Lee Nak-yeon paid an official visit to the Republic of Tajikistan. During the visit, the President of the Republic of Tajikistan received the Korean Prime Minister and he also held a bilateral meeting with the Prime Minister of the Republic of Tajikistan and the Mayor of Dushanbe city.

On November 6-8, 2018, First Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Tajikistan Davlatali Said made a working visit to the Republic of Korea to participate in the International Forum "Cor-Asia Forum 2018". Within the framework of this forum, the First Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Tajikistan met with the Prime Minister of the Republic of Korea Mr Lee Nak-yeon.

On 25th October 2022, the 5th meeting of the Joint Commission on Economic, Scientific and Technical Cooperation between the Republic of Tajikistan and the Republic of Korea was held in Seoul.

"Cooperation Forum between the Republic of Korea and Central Asian countries" has been operating since 2007 to strengthen relations between the Republic of Korea and the Central Asian region, which is of great importance for the development of bilateral relations between Tajikistan and Korea. Every year, various topics of cooperation are discussed within the framework of this Forum.

On October 30 – November 1, 2023, the delegation of the Republic of Tajikistan headed by the Minister of Foreign Affairs Sirojiddin Muhriddin took part in the 16th Central Asia-Republic of Korea Cooperation Forum in Ashgabat.

On November 4-6, 2024, a working visit of the delegation of the Republic of Tajikistan headed by Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs S. Imomi took place to participate in the 17th meeting of the Ministers of Foreign Affairs of the Central Asia - Republic of Korea Cooperation Forum. During the visit, a joint meeting of the heads of delegations with the President of the Republic of Korea was organized.

On November 6, 2024, in Seoul, within the framework of working visit, a meeting was held between the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Tajikistan Sodiq Imomi and the President of the Assembly and Chair of the Council of the Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI) Ban Ki-moon.

During the meeting, S.Imomi handed over to Ban Ki-moon the original Instrument of accession of Tajikistan to the Agreement on the establishment of the Global Green Growth Institute, and the parties noted the importance of joining of the Republic of Tajikistan to the GGGI to further expand cooperation in the field of environmental protection and climate change.

In July 2024, the Republic of Tajikistan was accepted as a member of the Asian Forest Cooperation Organization (AFoCO).

On October 31, 2024, during the meeting of the Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to the Republic of Tajikistan Jeon Sung Sik with the Minister of Labor, Migration and Employment of the Republic of Tajikistan Gulnora Hasanzoda, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed between the Ministry of Labor, Migration and Employment of the Republic of Tajikistan and the Ministry of Labor and Employment of the Republic of Korea on mobilization and registration of labor migrants through the Employment Permit System (EPS) in the working order. After signing this document, the EPS Center was opened in the building of the Overseas Employment Agency in Dushanbe, headed by Song Sang Jin.

The Permanent representative of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Republic of Tajikistan has been working in the Republic of Korea since April 2017.

The Republic of Tajikistan participates in various programs of the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA).

The trade turnover between the two countries for 2024 was more than 150 million US dollars.

On September 6, 2024, the President of the Republic of Tajikistan, the Leader of the Nation, the President of the Republic of Tajikistan, Leader of the Nation, Honorable Emomali Rahmon, received of the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) Chang Won Sam.

During the conversation, cooperation in the implementation of various projects was discussed, including in the fields of energy, transport, industry, small and medium entrepreneurship, digitization, public administration and human development.

The KOICA office officially began its activities in Dushanbe on February 21, 2022.

By 2024, the volume of direct investment from Korea exceeded 100 million US dollars.
