Relations of Tajikistan with Thailand

Diplomatic relations between the Republic of Tajikistan and the Kingdom of Thailand were established on August 5, 1992.

Since the establishment of diplomatic relations multifaceted relations have been developing both bilaterally and multilaterally.

The basis of the bilateral relations consists of more than 9 legal documents, as well as joint declarations between the President of the Republic of Tajikistan and Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Thailand on the outcome of mutual visits to Tajikistan and Thailand.

Trade and economic relations between the Republic of Tajikistan and the Kingdom of Thailand are in the process of gradual development. Trade turnover between the two countries in 2024 reached 2921,9 million. US dollars.

An important milestone in the history of the Tajik-Thai relations was the official visit of the President of the Republic of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon to the Kingdom of Thailand on 9-10 August 2005. During the visit, the President of the Republic of Tajikistan was received by His Majesty the King of Thailand Bhumibol Adulyadej (Rama IX), held discussions with Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra, as well as with other senior officials of the Government of Thailand. The outcome of the official visit was signing of a number of intergovernmental agreements.

At the invitation of the President of the Republic of Tajikistan in 2006, Prime Minister of Thailand, H.E. Thaksin Shinawatra visited Tajikistan with an official visit.

Positive impetus to the development of bilateral relations had been the official visit of the President of the Republic of Tajikistan H.E. Mr. Emomali Rahmon to Thailand on 17-19 May 2013. During the meetings, the President of the Republic of Tajikistan and the Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Thailand, Ms. Yingluck Shinawatra discussed a wide range of issues of bilateral as well as regional and international issues of mutual interest. Following the meeting, bilateral agreements were signed.

One of the bright moments of 2013 was the official visit of the Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Thailand H.E. Ms. Yingluck Shinawatra to Dushanbe on 19-20 August 2013. During the meeting between the President and Prime Minister  expressed confidence that the visit will serve as an impetus for the development of bilateral cooperation, strengthen previously laid foundations for political relations and will provide an opportunity to expand cooperation in new directions. At the end of the Tajik- Thai talks in Dushanbe two documents were signed, including a joint statement on the outcomes of the official visit of Yingluck Shinawatra to Tajikistan, and the Agreement between the Government of Tajikistan and the Government of Thailand on the abolition of visa requirements for holders of diplomatic, official and service passports. .

During the visit, Yingluck Shinawatra took part in the opening ceremony of the High Level Conference on Water Cooperation.
