Relations of Tajikistan with Indonesia

Diplomatic relations between the Republic of Tajikistan and the Republic of Indonesia were established on August 27, 1994.
The Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia in the Republic of Tajikistan is accredited with residence in Astana, Kazakhstan. At the same time, the Embassy of the Republic of Tajikistan in Malaysia is responsible for cooperation with the Republic of Indonesia.

Notably, in 2024, in collaboration with the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia in Astana, the two sides celebrated the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Tajikistan and Indonesia in the city of Dushanbe.

In 2016, the President of the Republic of Tajikistan, Honorable Emomali Rahmon, paid a state visit to the Republic of Indonesia.

From May 19 to 25, 2024, the Prime Minister of the Republic of Tajikistan, Kohir Rasulzoda, paid a working visit to Bali (Republic of Indonesia) to participate in the 10th World Water Forum under the theme “Water for Shared Prosperity”.

Trade

Economic and trade cooperation between the two friendly countries is carried out based on the Trade Agreement between the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan and the Government of the Republic of Indonesia, as well as other regulatory and legal documents. In this regard, in 2017, a meeting of the Tajikistan-Indonesia Intergovernmental Commission on Economic and Trade Cooperation was held, chaired by the Deputy Minister of Industry and New Technologies of the Republic of Tajikistan.

From January to December 2024, the trade turnover between the Republic of Tajikistan and the Republic of Indonesia amounted to 5 million 631 thousand US dollars.

Education

A Memorandum of Understanding was signed between the Ministry of Education of the Republic of Tajikistan and the Ministry of Education of the Republic of Indonesia on cooperation in the field of education. Its implementation is carried out through various educational and training programs. Notably, within the framework of the Darmasiswa program of the Republic of Indonesia (a scholarship program for foreign students), citizens of the Republic of Tajikistan study in Indonesia to learn the Indonesian language and culture.

Culture

In the city of Khujand, Sughd regions, the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia in Astana organized a cultural event dedicated to the history, culture, and national achievements of Indonesia, aiming to introduce the people of Tajikistan to the culture and civilization of the Republic of Indonesia.

International Cooperation

Both sides express satisfaction with the high level of cooperation between the two countries within the framework of the United Nations, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, and other multilateral regional and international structures.

Tajikistan and Indonesia continue to maintain close and constructive cooperation within the UN and also support each other’s regional and international initiatives.
