On 12 January 2017 in Minsk, Belarus the first meeting of the Council of Permanent and Plenipotentiary Representatives of the CIS member states was held.
At the meeting Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Tajikistan to the Republic of Belarus Qozidavlat Qoimdodov has proposed to include in the agenda the initiative of Tajikistan on proclamation of the "International Decade of Action "Water for Sustainable Development", 2018-2028", adopted by the Resolution of UN General Assembly (A/RES/71/222) on 21 December 2016. Qozidavlat Qoimdodov has presented to the participants the aims and objectives of a new international decade, as well as its role in the implementation of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
It should be noted that the initiative to declare the International Decade of Action "Water for Sustainable Development, 2018-2028" was proposed for the first time by the Founder of Peace and National Unity–Leader of the Nation, President of the Republic of Tajikistan H.E. Mr. Emomali Rahmon at the 7th World Water Forum in the city Daegu of South Korea.
