Bilateral Relations between the Republic of Tajikistan and the United Arab Emirates

Diplomatic relations between the Republic of Tajikistan and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) were formally established on December 18, 1995.

On March 17, 2007, the Consulate General of the Republic of Tajikistan was inaugurated in Dubai, UAE. Subsequently, on April 20, 2010, the United Arab Emirates appointed its Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the Republic of Tajikistan, with residence in Astana.

The Embassy of the Republic of Tajikistan in the UAE was officially established on October 8, 2010, and commenced its activities in 2011.

On August 16, 2024, Gulov Ashrafjon was appointed as the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Tajikistan to the United Arab Emirates. The current Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the United Arab Emirates to the Republic of Tajikistan, residing in Astana, is Muhammad Said Muhammad Al-Ariki.

 The first official visit of the Founder of Peace and National Unity — Leader of the Nation, President of the Republic of Tajikistan, His Excellency Emomali Rahmon — to the United Arab Emirates took place in 1995 at the invitation of the Founder of the United Arab Emirates, Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan. During this visit, a number of agreements were signed.

In 2007 and 2016, the President of the Republic of Tajikistan paid official visits to the United Arab Emirates. During these high-level meetings, issues related to the development and expansion of friendly relations and cooperation between the two countries were discussed.

Inter-parliamentary cooperation between Tajikistan and the United Arab Emirates has been steadily developing. On February 25, 2021, the first virtual inter-parliamentary consultations were held between members of the Tajikistan–United Arab Emirates Inter-Parliamentary Friendship Group.

On December 5–6, 2023, a delegation of the Republic of Tajikistan’s Parliament, led by the Chairman of the Majlisi Namoyandagon of the Majlisi Oli, Honorable Mahmadtoir Zokirzoda, participated in and addressed a meeting of parliamentary institutions held in Dubai on the sidelines of the 28th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP28). During the sidelines of the meeting, Honorable Mahmadtoir Zokirzoda also met with the Chairman of the Federal National Council of the United Arab Emirates, Saqr Ghabbosh.

On May 16–17, 2015, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Tajikistan, His Excellency Sirojiddin Muhriddin, paid an official visit to the United Arab Emirates.

On May 25, 2017, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the United Arab Emirates, His Excellency Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, paid an official visit to the Republic of Tajikistan.

The first meeting of political consultations at the level of Deputy Foreign Ministers was held in March 2017 in Dushanbe, followed by the second meeting on March 5, 2019, in Abu Dhabi.

Since 2014, four meetings of the Tajikistan–UAE Intergovernmental Commission on Economic, Trade, and Technical Cooperation have been held: in May 2014 in Abu Dhabi, April 2016 in Dushanbe, December 2017 in Abu Dhabi, and July 2021 virtually.

Effective January 1, 2022, citizens of the United Arab Emirates are permitted to travel to Tajikistan without a visa for a period of 30 days. Furthermore, as of January 29, 2023, a visa-free regime came into effect between the two countries for holders of diplomatic, service, and special passports.
