Relations of Tajikistan and Canada

Diplomatic relations between the Republic of Tajikistan and Canada was established on January 1, 1992. The Embassy of Canada is located in Nur-Sultan of Kazakhstan and covers Tajikistan as well. The Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Canada is Mr. Nicholas Brousseau (presented Credentials on 20 November 2017).

Meeting of the President of the Republic of Tajikistan H.E. Mr. Emomali Rahmon with the Prime-minster of Canada H.E. Mr. Justin Trudeau, on September 21, 2017 in the margins of the session of the UN General Assembly had an important role in development of bilateral relations. During the meeting issues of bilateral cooperation between the two countries in the fields of economy, trade, energy, transportation, security and border management have been discussed.

Meeting of Ministers of Foreign Affairs Mr. Hamrokhon Zarifi and Mr. Lawrence Cannon and visit of Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Foreign Affairs Deepak Obhrai to Tajikistan also contributed to the promotion of bilateral relations.

Cooperation of Tajikistan with Canada now is under ways through the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA) programs and covers the field of agricultural production, public health services and education. CIDA operates in Tajikistan through the Agha-Khan Foundation.
