Relations of Tajikistan with Mexico

Diplomatic relations between the Republic of Tajikistan and the United Mexican States were established on January 14, 1992.

The Ambassador of the United Mexican States to the Republic of Tajikistan (with residence in Tehran) is Mr. Guillermo Alejandro Puente Ordorica (since 2022).

Tajikistan's relations with Mexico are at the stage of formation and development and are currently limited to the promotion of cooperation within the framework of international organizations and the exchange of congratulatory messages and letters. It should be noted that both countries enjoy an effective partnership within the framework of their membership in the High-Level Panel on Water. In this regard, Mexico supported Tajikistan's global initiatives in the water sector, and Tajikistan, in turn, supported Mexico's candidacy for membership in various UN structures.

On September 5, 2017, in Xiamen, People's Republic of China, on the margins of the Dialogue of Developing Countries and BRICS Member States, the Founder of Peace and National Unity – Leader of the Nation, President of the Republic of Tajikistan, Honorable Emomali Rahmon had a meeting with the President of the United Mexican States, Honorable Enrique Peña Nieto, during which the current status and prospects of cooperation between the two countries were discussed.

Trade turnover between Tajikistan and Mexico in 2023 amounted to 732.8 thousand US dollars.

At present, the legal framework of relations between Tajikistan and Mexico is being formed. In this context, an Agreement between the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan and the Government of the United Mexican States on the abolition of visa requirements for holders of diplomatic passports was signed on September 26, 2019 on the margins of the 74th session of the UN General Assembly.
