Diplomatic relations between the Republic of Tajikistan and the Kingdom of the Netherlands were established on July 27, 1992.
Embassy of the Republic of Tajikistan in Belgium functions as the Embassy of the Republic of Tajikistan to the Kingdom of the Netherlands.
The Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands to Tajikistan has its residence in Astana. Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Kingdom of the Netherlands to the Republic of Tajikistan is Nicolaas Schermers (since 15.03.2024).
Bilateral relations between the two countries are at the stage of perfection. The volume of mutual trade for 2024 amounted to more than 135 million US dollars.
With a view to strengthening and expand economic and cultural ties, the Honorary Consulate of the Kingdom of the Netherlands was opened in Dushanbe.
Cooperation between Tajikistan and the Netherlands in the field of science and education is carried out under the Erasmus + program and other programs of the European Union. In addition, the Government of the Netherlands annually allocates educational scholarships to young diplomats for periods of study in political and diplomatic centers - the Clingendael Institute of the Kingdom of the Netherlands.
Tajik diaspora “Anjumani Somoniyon” is active in the Netherlands since 2016.
Tajikistan and the Netherlands are members of international organizations, productive cooperation has been established between the countries within the framework of the UN, the OSCE, and the European Union. In particular, the initiatives of Tajikistan in the water sector are supported by the Netherlands, and on March 22-24, 2023, the United Nations Conference on the Midterm Comprehensive Review of the Implementation of the Objectives of the International Decade for Action, “Water for Sustainable Development”, 2018–2028” (New York-2023) was be held.
On March 22, 2023, the Founder of Peace and National Unity – Leader of the Nation, President of the Republic of Tajikistan, esteemed Emomali Rahmon met with King of the Netherlands Willem-Alexander on the sidelines of the UN Water Conference 2023 in New York.
The legal framework for cooperation between the two states is formed by intergovernmental agreements.
