Bilateral relations of Tajikistan with Belgium

Diplomatic relations between the Republic of Tajikistan and the Kingdom of Belgium were established on April 29, 1992.

In 2001 the Embassy of the Republic of Tajikistan in the Kingdom of Belgium, functioning also as the Permanent Mission at the European Communities was opened in Brussels. Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Tajikistan to the Kingdom of Belgium is Muzaffar Huseinzoda.

The Embassy of the Kingdom of Belgium in the Republic of Tajikistan has its residence in Astana, Republic of Kazakhstan.

Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Kingdom of Belgium to the Republic of Tajikistan is Mr. Henri Vantieghem  (since March 2022).

Further development of relations with the Kingdom of Belgium as one of the countries-founders of the European Union has great importance for Tajikistan.

The basis for the development of mutually beneficial relations is laid during visits at the highest and high levels. President of the Republic of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon visits Brussels six times. (2003, 2004, 2009, 2013, 2015, 2021).

Political consultations between the Republic of Tajikistan and the Kingdom of Belgium play a key role in expanding cooperation between our countries and are held constantly once in two years.

Inter-parliamentary meetings take place between the states. The first meeting of the Inter-parliamentary cooperation Commission between Tajikistan and the European Parliament in Brussels. On the sidelines of the meeting, the parties have signed a Memorandum of Understanding between the parliaments of Tajikistan and the Kingdom of Belgium.

Cooperation of the Republic of Tajikistan with the Kingdom of Belgium in economic and trade spheres is being actively developed.

The trade turnover of the Republic of Tajikistan with Belgium for the nine months of 2023 was 13,528 million US dollars.

In order to strengthen and expand economic and cultural ties, the Honorary Consulate of the Kingdom of Belgium was opened in Dushanbe.

The legal framework for cooperation between the two states is formed by intergovernmental and interdepartmental agreements. The Republic of Tajikistan and the Kingdom of Belgium signed bilateral documents in the areas of politics, economy, trade, education, healthcare, tourism, etc.
