On June 1, 2019, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Tajikistan, Sirojiddin Muhriddin, met with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Mohammad Javad Zarif, in the city of Tehran, Iran. The parties concluded the Memorandum of Understanding between the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan and the Government of the Islamic Republic of Iran on the Principles and Framework of Bilateral Security Cooperation.
In this meeting, the parties commented on the development of bilateral political, commercial, economic and cultural relations, and discussed the issues of strengthening inter-parliamentary cooperation, in particular strengthening the activity of Tajikistan-Iran parliamentary friendship groups.
At the meeting, it was emphasized that in the light of the guidance of the two countries' leadership, the existing problems would soon be resolved and bilateral relations would be further enhanced.
The historical, cultural and national interests of the two countries compel high-level bilateral relations to be developed.
Due to the spread of terrorism, extremism, and threats and dangers in the contemporary world, the Foreign Ministers of the two countries emphasized the importance of the collective struggle against these dangerous phenomena, and determined to expand bilateral cooperation in this area.
The signing of a "Memorandum of Understanding between the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan and the Government of the Islamic Republic of Iran on the Principles and Framework for Bilateral Security Cooperation", which will assist in enhancing the relations between the two countries' security authorities on this road, was valuable.
According to the signed Memorandum, the Parties undertake to provide security and fight against criminality in the areas of prevention of usurpation of power, threats to the constitution, the fight against terrorism and extremism and their financial support, the prevention of illicit transactions of weapons and Explosives, Fight Against Illegal Immigration, Human Trafficking, Prevention and Fight against Crime Using Information Technologies, Cybercrime, Prevention of Recognition of Proceeds from Crime, Sponsorship of terrorism and extremism cooperate, do not interfere in each other's internal affairs.
The Memorandum of Understanding states that the parties "shall prevent, and refrain from, any activity or support of parties and organizations recognized as terrorist organizations and extremists."
In this context, the parties emphasized that it would prevent the activities of members and followers of terrorist and extremist parties and groups in its territory.
At the same time, the Parties pledged to cooperate in the exchange of information on the above-mentioned sectors, to provide each other with scientific and educational information, and to prevent citizens from illegally studying, provide material and technical assistances and use of each other's experience.
The two sides emphasized that the media of both sides would work in favor of the goals and aspirations of both countries, encouraging and furthering friendly relations.
At the 5th Conference on Interaction and Confidence-Building Measures, which will be held in Dushanbe on June 15, 2019, will attend with the invitation of the President of the Republic of Tajikistan, H.E. Mr. Emomali Rahmon, President of the Islamic Republic of Iran, H.E. Mr. Hassan Rouhani. Within the scope of the Conference on Interaction and Confidence-Building Measures the two countries' leaders will address the pressing issues of bilateral cooperation between the Republic of Tajikistan and the Islamic Republic of Iran.
