Presentation of documentary film "Women of the Silk Road"

On April 3, 2019, at the initiative of the Permanent Delegations of the Sultanate of Oman, the Republic of Turkey, the Islamic Republic of Iran and the Republic of Tajikistan to UNESCO the presentation of a documentary film “Women of the Silk Road” took place at UNESCO headquarters in Paris.

The event was attended by the permanent delegates of the UNESCO member countries, the diplomatic corps accredited in Paris, scientific and cultural circles, residents and guests of the capital of France.

The film showed the life and work of four women from Tajikistan, Turkey, Oman and Iran, whose main source of income was the ancient art of carpet weaving and “suzane” hand embroidery of the countries of the Silk Road region.

After the film screening, a round table entitled “The Role of Women in the Silk Road” was held with the participation of representatives of Oman, Turkey, Bangladesh, Iran and Tajikistan. The Permanent Delegate of Tajikistan to UNESCO expressed his gratitude to the film director Ms. Yassamin Maleknasr (Iran) and emphasized the important role of women in reviving and strengthening of the culture and arts of the Silk Road regions, including in the modern society of Tajikistan.
