On October 3, 2022, the Permanent Representative of the Republic of Tajikistan to the UN Jonibek Hikmat took part and delivered a statement at the General debates of the Second Committee (The Economic and Financial Issues ) of 77th session UN General Assembly.
In his speech, the Permanent Representative of Tajikistan to the UN drew the participant’s attention to Tajikistan's initiatives for the timely implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development Agenda and highlighted the country's priorities in the Second Committee.
The Permanent Representative also noted the global initiatives of the President of the Republic of Tajikistan, H.E. Mr. Emomali Rahmon in the field of water and climate, as well as the International Decade of Action "Water for Sustainable Development, 2018-2028" and to declare 2025 as the International Year of Glacier Preservation in order to achieve the goals and targets of the Agenda 2030. In this regard, Member states were invited to support Tajikistan's draft resolution on declaring 2025 as the International Year of Glacier Preservation at the 77th session of the United Nations General Assembly.
The importance of the UN 2023 Water Conference to achieve sustainable development goals, in particular, SDG6 and other water-related goals and targets were also at the center of the Permanent Representative's speech.
