On January 25, 2022, the Ambassadorial Level Meeting of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) was held at the UN Headquarters.
It is worth mentioning that one of the items on the agenda of the meeting was Tajikistan’s membership for a non-permanent seat of the United Nations Security Council for the term 2028-2029.
The Permanent Representative, Mr. Jonibek Hikmat, during the presentation of the country's candidacy, noted that following years of contributions to multilateralism through active participation in the United Nations activities and processes and having unique peacemaking experience the time has come for Tajikistan to seek for the first time, its nonpermanent seat on the UN. Security Council for 2028-2029.
At the end of the consideration of this agenda item, the OIC Group Member States unanimously expressed their support for Tajikistan's candidacy for the t of non-permanent membership of the UN Security Council for the term 2028-2029.
It should be noted that by the resolution of the Council of Ministers of Foreign Affairs of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation No. 8/48-LO (March 22-23, 2022, Islamabad, Islamic Republic of Pakistan), member states were called upon to support the candidature of Tajikistan.
