Scientific and practical conference dedicated to the memory of academician Bobojon Gafurov

On 30 October 2024, by the initiative of the Embassy of the Republic of Tajikistan to the Russian Federation, in cooperation with the Institute of Oriental Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences, a Scientific and Practical Conference dedicated to academician Bobojon Gafurov was held.     

The conference was attended by poets, writers, scientists, experts and teachers of higher educational institutions of Russia, who took part at the event and gave speeches.

The Ambassador of the Republic of Tajikistan to the Russian Federation Mr. Davlatshoh Gulmahmadzoda noted in his opening remarks that the contribution of Bobojon Gafurov in the economic and social development of Tajikistan, advancing modern science and culture of the republic and oriental studies of the XX century was very effective. The chief of diplomatic mission emphasized that Bobojon Gafurov spent his entire life and activity in researching the traditions of Tajik statehood, history of Tajik nation, status and historical place of Tajiks in science, literature, culture and human civilization. Therefore, on 08 September 1997, by the decree of the President of Tajikistan, Bobojon Gafurov was awarded the highest title "Hero of Tajikistan" for his outstanding state activity and great services for the development of science and culture, national self-awareness, sense of pride and patriotism.

During this event scientists and experts of international level, including Mr. Vitaly Naumkin, academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences, and Mr. Alikber Alikberov, Director of the Institute of Oriental Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences, spoke about the merits of Bobojon Gafurov and shared thoughts about his life, fruitful work on the path of representing the Tajik culture and civilization on the world stage.

On the sidelines of the conference, Tajik national costumes, crafts and photographs from the life and works of Bobojon Gafurov, as well as his masterpiece "Tojikon" (The Tajiks) were featured.

It should be noted that Bobojon Gafurov headed the Institute of Oriental Studies of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR (now the Institute of Oriental Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences) from 1956 to 1977.
