Meeting of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Tajikistan with the Chairman of the House of People (Wulusi Jirga) of the National Assembly of Afghanistan

On 1 March 2021, in Dushanbe, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Tajikistan Sirojiddin Muhriddin met with the Chairman of the House of People (Wulusi Jirga) of the National Assembly of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, Mir Rahmon Rahmoni. The meeting discussed the situation in the region and Afghanistan, the process of inter-Afghan negotiations, relations between Tajikistan and Afghanistan in various fields, in particular, strengthening and expanding inter-parliamentary cooperation, legislation and exchange of experience.

The Majlisi Oli of the Republic of Tajikistan, together with the parliaments of foreign countries through friendship groups, solves legislative issues that are important for our peoples and countries. For this purpose, a Friendship Group was established between the Majlisi Namoyandagon Majlisi Oli of the Republic of Tajikistan and the Wulusi Jirga of the National Assembly of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan.

The hope was expressed that the created friendship group would make a significant contribution to the development of inter-parliamentary relations and ensure the active participation of the parliaments of the two friendly and fraternal countries in the international and regional arenas. It was noted that the relations of friendship, cooperation and partnership between the two neighboring and speaking the same language countries allow Dushanbe and Kabul to share equal or similar positions on topical international and regional issues.

The parties noted that the joint fight against terrorism, extremism and drug trafficking is an important area of ​​cooperation between the two countries. It was emphasized that in order to overcome the consequences of the Covid-19 pandemic, it is necessary to increase cooperation and partnership between the two countries.

Tajikistan supports the efforts of the Afghan government in ensuring security, peace and stability in the country. In this regard, the Tajik side welcomes the process of inter-Afghan peace talks in Doha. The Tajik side hopes that the inter-Afghan peace talks will lay a solid foundation for restoring peace and stability in this long-suffering country.

Tajikistan recognizes the key role of Afghanistan in ensuring security throughout the Central Asian region and has always supported constructive initiatives of the international community to ensure peace and stability in Afghanistan and its economic and social recovery.

It was noted, that Tajikistan and Afghanistan are successfully cooperating within the framework of international and regional organizations such as the UN, the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation and others.

The parties expressed satisfaction with the high level of political and inter-parliamentary relations between the two countries.
