On December 9, 2020, at the initiative of the People's Republic of China, a meeting of the Deputy Foreign Ministers of the countries of Central Asia, China and Afghanistan was held on the topic "Trade and connectivity between China, Afghanistan and the countries of Central Asia" in the format of a videoconference. The Tajik side was represented by Deputy Foreign Minister M. Huseinzoda.
During the meeting, the parties exchanged views on cooperation in combating the pandemic, trade and economic cooperation, transport and security.
In his speech, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Tajikistan Muzaffar Huseynzoda noted that interaction among Central Asia, China and Afghanistan is of particular importance and plays an important role in the development and strengthening of contacts and cooperation between the countries of the region.
Referring to the rapidly changing world situation due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the Deputy Foreign Minister of our country called on his colleagues to take effective joint measures to prevent the further spread of coronavirus infection and restore sustainable socio-economic development of the countries of the region. It was noted that the Covid-19 pandemic has presented humanity with serious challenges and problems. In this regard, he called on the participating countries of this format to unite in the fight against the consequences of the pandemic by using all existing resources and opportunities.
Taking into account the importance of developing trade and economic cooperation, M. Huseynzoda emphasized the importance of promoting projects in the field of energy, transport, industry and agriculture, and called for an increase in export potential and uninterrupted transportation of goods.
He noted that cooperation of the countries of the region in the field of security is of great importance for a peace and stability in Afghanistan.
The parties agreed to contribute to the maintenance of peace, stability and prosperity in the region on the basis of good neighborliness by strengthening cooperation in trade and communications.
