On November 23, 2014 the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Tajikistan Sirodjidin Aslov held talks with the First Deputy Prime-Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the State of Kuwait Sheikh Sabah Al Khalid Al Khamas Al Sabah.
During the talks, the sides discussed topical issues of cooperation between Tajikistan and Kuwait in various directions.
The Tajikistan Foreign Minister said that the development of cooperation with Kuwait is of great importance and has a special place in Tajikistan foreign policy.
S. Aslov noted that the first visit of the President of the Republic of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon in the State of Kuwait applied on 17-19 April, 1995 can be considered as the beginning of relations between the two countries, which laid the foundation of bilateral ties. It was stressed that next year will be the 20th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries. In this regard, S. Aslov proposed to draw up a plan of festive events and expressed hope to close cooperation between the two Foreign Ministries.
Furthermore, considering the need to increase cooperation between the two countries, S. Aslov also announced a proposal to work on Cooperation Program 2015-2020.
During the meeting the signing ceremony of the Protocol on Amendments to the Agreement between the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan and the Government of the State of Kuwait on the abolition of visa requirements for holders of diplomatic, special and service passports from June 23, 2013 was held. The protocol was signed by the Ministers of Foreign Affairs of Tajikistan and Kuwait.
