Participation of the Minister of Foreign Affairs in Berlin International Conference entitled “Green Central Asia”

On January 28, 2020 International Conference entitled “Green Central Asia” took place in Berlin.

The event was attended by Ministers of Foreign Affairs of Central Asian countries, Afghanistan, Germany, High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and other representatives of European Union countries.

The delegation of Tajikistan was headed by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Tajikistan Sirojiddin Muhriddin.

During his statement the Minister of Foreign Affairs called upon international community to strengthen cooperation on climate change and its impacts on flora and fauna as well as recalled the initiative of the Founder of Peace and National Unity – Leader of the Nation, President of the Republic of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon regarding the creation of International Fund for preservation of glaciers which would help countries in need and affected by the climate change.

The Minister also noted the importance of preserving and rational use of water resources in the region and drew the attention of participants to the global water initiatives of the President of the Republic of Tajikistan, which would contribute to the promotion and implementation of the water related Sustainable Development Goals.

At the end of the conference foreign ministers of participating countries signed a Joint Declaration on cooperation in the field of climate change and security.
