On November 27-28, 2019, the Second Session of the Joint Intergovernmental Commitee on Economic, Scientific and Technical Cooperation between the Republic of Tajikistan and the Arab Republic of Egypt was held in Cairo. The Tajik delegation at this meeting was headed by the Minister of Economic Development and Trade of the Republic of Tajikistan Hikmatullo Nematullozoda, and the Egyptian side, by the Minister of Investment and International Cooperation of Egypt, Dr. Sahar Nasr.
At this session, the current state and development prospects of cooperation between the two countries in the areas of economy, trade, finance, investment, the private sector, banking, transport, agriculture, oil and gas, energy, education, culture, tourism, sports and other areas were discussed .
During the meeting, the parties noted the importance of the first official visit of the Leader of the Nation, the President of the Republic of Tajikistan, Mr. Emomali Rahmon to the Arab Republic of Egypt in February 2007 to further strengthen cooperation between the two countries.
In order to establish and widen direct cooperation between the private sector and business circles of the two countries and to better represent investment opportunities in Tajikistan, the parties agreed to establish the Business Council of Tajikistan and Egypt in the near future and to hold its first meeting in 2020. Also in the course of the meeting, a separate presentation was made on the investment opportunities of Tajikistan and Egypt.
Within the framework of the visit, bilateral meetings were held between the Head of the delegation of Tajikistan and the Minister of Investment and International Cooperation, Dr. Sahar Nasr, the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Dr. Khalid Abdulgaffar and the Minister of Energy and Renewable Energy of Egypt, Dr. Mohammed Shakir.
During the abovementioned meetings, the sides discussed ways to strengthen mutually beneficial cooperation between Tajikistan and Egypt in various fields, including economy, trade, investment, industry, agriculture, tourism, hydropower, solar energy, education, research and other areas.
Also within the framework of this Session of the Joint Commission, the Minister of Culture of the Republic of Tajikistan Shamsiddin Orumbekzoda met with the Minister of Culture of the Arab Republic of Egypt, Dr. Inas Abdel Dayem, and the Chairman of the Egyptian National Library and Archive, Dr. Hisham Mahmoud, where the parties discussed the state and prospects for the development of cultural cooperation between the two countries.
As a result of the event, the Protocol of the Second Session of the Joint Intergovernmental Commission between Tajikistan and Egypt on economic, scientific and technical cooperation was signed. Also, following the results of the meeting of the Joint Commission, three interdepartmental documents on cooperation were signed, in particular: Memorandum of Understanding between the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Tajikistan and the Ministry of Culture of the Arab Republic of Egypt in the field of culture; Memorandum of Understanding on Cooperation between the Tajinvest State Unitary Enterprise and the Egyptian Investment and Free Zone Committee (GAFI) on the development of bilateral investment relations; and Memorandum of Understanding between the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Republic of Tajikistan and the Federation of the Chambers of Commerce of the Arab Republic of Egypt.
