Diplomatic relations between the Republic of Tajikistan and the Republic of Finland was established on February 22, 1992.
The Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of the Republic of Finland in the Republic of Tajikistan is Mr. Niklas Lindqvist (October 3, 2013) with a residence in Helsinki.
In June 2009 in Dushanbe were held the first interagency Consultations of bilateral cooperation between Ministry of Foreign Affairs Republic of Tajikistan and Ministry of Foreign Affairs Republic of Finland. During Consultations the sides discussed the issue of bilateral relations.
On 14-18 November 2011 in Helsinki were held interagency Consultations of bilateral cooperation between Ministry of Foreign Affairs Republic of Finland and Ministry of Foreign Affairs Republic of Tajikistan. During Consultations the Tajik side familiarized with the activity of the departments of Finland Foreign Ministry, as well as the sides discussed the issue of bilateral relations and their developments.
On January 30 – February 1, 2012 the Finnish delegation designated by Ambassador Juhani Toyvonen visited Tajikistan. The purpose of the visit was discussing the issue of bilateral relations between two countries.
On October 23-25, 2012 the official visit of President of the Republic of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon was held in Finland. During the visit President Emomali Rahmon hold meetings with President of Finland Sauli Niinisto and other officials. It necessary underlined that Agreement between the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan and the Government of the Republic of Finland for the avoidance of double taxation and prevention of fiscal evasion with the respect to taxes on income and capital was signed during this visit.
According to the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade’s data the volume of trade between the Republic of Tajikistan and Finland in 2016 (January-September) total amount of bilateral trade reached 2455,4 thousand USD (import – 2455,4 thousand USD).
In 9 months of 2017 (January-September) – the total amount of bilateral trade reached 1024,6 thousand US dollars (imports – 1024,6 thousand USD).
