Bilateral relations of Tajikistan with Greece

Diplomatic relations between the Republic of Tajikistan and the Hellenic Republic were established on 30 September, 1992.

Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Greek Republic to the Republic of Tajikistan (with residence in Moscow) is Mr. Andreas Friganas.

Political cooperation. On 3 December 2009 the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Tajikistan, Hamrokhon Zarifi  has met the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Greece to the Republic of Tajikistan, Michel Spinellis on the occasion of presenting copy of his credentials.

On 20 May 2008 the political consultations between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Tajikistan and the Greek Republic took place in Dushanbe. According to the agenda, the two sides discussed and exchanged views on bilateral relations, socio-political and economic situation in both countries, issues of regional cooperation and security and the interaction of Tajikistan and Greece in the framework of international organizations such as OSCE and UN.

At the same day, in the framework of political consultations Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Republic Tajikistan H.Zarifi met with Ambassador N. Samados, Head of the Department of the Greek Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

On 17 September 2008 in Paris the Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Republic Tajikistan H.Zarifi met with the Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Greece Dora Bakoyannis. During the meeting issues of bilateral political, trade, economic and humanitarian cooperation have been discussed.

The Republic of Tajikistan is favor for the further development and strengthening of relations with the Greek Republic in political, trade and economic, cultural and other areas.

International Cooperation. Cooperation of the Republic of Tajikistan with the Hellenic Republic in the framework of international organizations is being actively developed. In 2009 Greece has chaired the OSCE.

On 1st December 2009 in Athens on the sideline of 17th Council of Ministers of OSCE, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Tajikistan H.Zarifi has met with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Greece George A. Papandreou. The main attention during the exchange of views was given to the issues of the bilateral Tajik-Greek relations, particularly in the field of trade and economy, as well as other regional issues of mutual interest.

Economic Cooperation.

There are a huge potential for a development of bilateral trade and it would be useful to organize joint Tajik-Greek Business Forums.

According to the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade’s data the volume of trade between the Republic of Tajikistan and Great Britain in 2016 (January-September) total amount of bilateral trade reached 277,4 thousand USD (import – 274,2 thousand USD, export – 3,2 thousand USD).

In 9 months of 2017 (January-September) – the total amount of bilateral trade reached 919,3 thousand US dollars (imports – 919,3 thousand USD).

The main import products – machinery, equipment, petrol and oil products, consume goods.

Legal Base. The Republic of Tajikistan is for the prompt establishment of necessary legal base of the Tajik-Greek cooperation in various areas.
