Meeting with the World Bank’s Managing Director for Operations Mrs. Anna Bjerde

On September 23, the President of the Republic of Tajikistan, Leader of the Nation, Honorable Emomali Rahmon, met in New York with the World Bank’s Managing Director for Operations Mrs. Anna Bjerde.

The issues of Tajikistan's cooperation with this reputable international institution were discussed at the meeting.

The President of the country, Honorable Emomali Rahmon, called the World Bank one of the main partners of the country's development and expressed satisfaction with the effective cooperation with it.

It was emphasized that during the 31 years of bilateral cooperation with the Bank's financial support, 116 priority projects in the social, transport, energy and agriculture sectors were implemented in Tajikistan for a total amount of 2.9 billion dollars.

The issues of attracting funds for the implementation of national economic development projects and ensuring social goals of the country, cooperation in the fields of hydropower, industry, access to "green energy" and the development of "green economy" were among the main topics of the conversation.

The World Bank was thanked for its leadership and practical actions in the process of financing the construction of the "Rogun" Hydropower Plant.

Also, there was an exchange of views on preventing and reducing the impact of various external factors on the economy of Tajikistan, attracting additional funds and continuing the reform process.

It was emphasized that Tajikistan has abundant natural resources, especially for the production of renewable energy and agricultural development, and it is necessary to increase international financial and technical support for the effective use of these opportunities.

A useful discussion was also held on other topics of interest to the parties.
