Diplomatic relations between the Republic of Tajikistan and the Republic of Armenia were established on October 12, 1992.
The Tajik-Armenian relations are characterized by a spirit of mutual trust, identity or community of views on major international and regional issues.
Meeting of the two presidents greatly contributed to the convergence of mutual relations and strengthening ties between them.
On 2-3 April 2002, President of the Republic of Armenia Robert Kocharyan visited Tajikistan.
On 25-26 November 2003, President of the Republic of Tajikistan E. Rahmon visited the Republic of Armenia.
In 2005, the President of Tajikistan has made a shot-term visit to Armenia.
During mentioned visits the founding document - the Treaty of Friendship and Cooperation between the Republic of Tajikistan and the Republic of Armenia and a number of intergovernmental and interdepartmental agreements in the field of investment, science, technology, information, environmental protection and construction were signed.
The legal base of bilateral relations consists of more than 20 documents, which cover a wide range of issues of bilateral cooperation in the fields of economy, trade, agriculture, health, culture, science, education, and etc.
In recent years the parties are actively taking steps to establish and expand direct economic links between enterprises of the two countries. Currently, both parties are holding mutual supply of products for industrial use, consumer goods and raw materials.
Coordinating role in the trade and economic relations of the Republic of Tajikistan and the Republic of Armenia plays Tajik-Armenian Intergovernmental Commission on Trade and Economic Cooperation. During the meetings of this Commission were taken measures on strengthening and further development of bilateral cooperation in various fields.
In general, the relationships between the Republic of Tajikistan and the Republic of Armenia have the perspective of further development and strengthening.
