Bilateral relations between the Republic of Tajikistan and the State of Qatar

Diplomatic relations between the Republic of Tajikistan and the State of Qatar were established on December 13, 1994. The Embassy of the State of Qatar in Dushanbe was opened in November 2012, while the Embassy of the Republic of Tajikistan in Doha commenced operations in May 2013.

The Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Tajikistan to the State of Qatar is H.E. Mahmadali Nurmurod Murodali. The Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the State of Qatar to the Republic of Tajikistan is H.E. Mubarak bin Abdulrahman Mubarak Al-Nasr.

Throughout the history of diplomatic relations, the Founder of Peace and National Unity — Leader of the Nation, President of the Republic of Tajikistan, H.E. Emomali Rahmon — has visited the State of Qatar six times (2007, 2017, 2024, and 2025), including one state visit on January 21–22, 2024. These working and official visits have played a key and influential role in the development of bilateral relations.

The Emir of the State of Qatar has paid three working and official visits to the Republic of Tajikistan (2007, 2019, and 2023).

The official visit of the Founder of Peace and National Unity — Leader of the Nation, President of the Republic of Tajikistan, H.E. Emomali Rahmon, on May 6–7, 2007, opened a new chapter in the history of bilateral relations. The official return visit of the Emir of the State of Qatar, H.H. Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al-Thani, to the Republic of Tajikistan took place in August 2007, marking the first visit of an Arab head of state to Tajikistan.

On June 8, 2023, the Emir of the State of Qatar, H.H. Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani, paid a state visit to the Republic of Tajikistan. Within the framework of this visit, 15 new agreements were signed to strengthen cooperation in the spheres of economy and trade, food security, agriculture, and other areas.

On January 21–22, 2024, the Founder of Peace and National Unity — Leader of the Nation, President of the Republic of Tajikistan, H.E. Emomali Rahmon, paid a state visit to the State of Qatar. Within the framework of the visit, nine agreements on cooperation were signed between the ministries and agencies of the two countries.

Political consultations between the Republic of Tajikistan and the State of Qatar have been held four times: on October 24, 2018, in Dushanbe; on January 26, 2020, in Doha; on May 5, 2023, in Dushanbe; and on July 15, 2025, in Doha.

The legal framework of cooperation between the two countries consists of 42 intergovernmental and interagency agreements.

The State of Qatar is the first Arab country to invest in Tajikistan. The Qatari company “Dier” is implementing the investment project “Dieri Dushanbe” in the capital city, with the first phase of the project already completed.

A joint intergovernmental commission on trade, economic, technical, and scientific cooperation has been established between the two countries. Meetings of the Commission have been held as follows: October 2012 in Dushanbe; January 30–February 3, 2016, in Doha; August 30–31, 2018, in Dushanbe; September 27–28, 2023, in Doha; and October 2025 in Dushanbe.
