Bilateral relations with the State of Qatar

Diplomatic relations between the Republic of Tajikistan and the State of Qatar were established on December 13, 1994. In November 2012, the Embassy of the State of Qatar was opened in Dushanbe, and in May 2013 - the Embassy of the Republic of Tajikistan in Doha.

The Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Tajikistan to the State of Qatar is Mahmadali Nurmurod Murodali. He has been appointed since 6 of May 2024. The Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the State of Qatar to the Republic of Tajikistan is Mubarak bin Abdulrahman Mubarak Al-Nasr, appointed from January 2023.

The official visit of the Founder of Peace and National Unity - Leader of the Nation, President of the Republic of Tajikistan Honorable Emomali Rahmon on May 6-7, 2007 opened a new page in the history of bilateral relations. The official return visit of the Emir of the State of Qatar Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al-Thani to the Republic of Tajikistan took place in August 2007, which was the first visit of an Arab head of state to Tajikistan.

The official visit of the President of the Republic of Tajikistan, Leader of the Nation, honourable Emomali Rahmon to the State of Qatar on February 5-7, 2017 at the invitation of the Emir of the State of Qatar Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani and the high-level talks in Doha gave a serious impetus to the process of establishing multifaceted relations between the two countries. On the instructions of the top leaders of the two countries, an instrument of political consultations was established between the foreign ministries at the level of ministers, deputy ministers and heads of departments.

On June 8, 2023, the Emir of the State of Qatar Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani paid a state visit to the Republic of Tajikistan.

Within the framework of this visit, 15 new documents regarding cooperation in the spheres of economy and trade, food security, agriculture and other areas were signed.

On January 21-22, 2024, the Founder of Peace and National Unity - Leader of the Nation, President of the Republic of Tajikistan, Honorable Emomali Rahmon, paid a state visit to the State of Qatar.

Discussion of issues of cooperation between the two countries began at a special meeting of the heads of state His Excellency Mr. Emomali Rahmon and His Highness the Emir of the State of Qatar Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani and continued during the negotiations with the participation of official delegations of the states.

Within the framework of the state visit of the President of the Republic of Tajikistan, Honorable Emomali Rahmon to the State of Qatar, 9 documents on cooperation were signed between the ministries and agencies of the two countries.

In the history of relations, political consultations between the Republic of Tajikistan and the State of Qatar were held 3 meetings: on October 24, 2018 in Dushanbe, on January 26, 2020 in Doha and on May 5, 2023 in Dushanbe under the leadership of the First Deputy Foreign Ministers of the two countries.

The legal basis of cooperation between the Republic of Tajikistan and the State of Qatar consists of more than 30 intergovernmental and interagency documents.

Trade and economic cooperation. The State of Qatar is the first Arab country to invest in Tajikistan. The Qatari company "Dier" is implementing the investment project "Dieri Dushanbe" in the capital of Tajikistan. At the moment, the first phase of this project has been completed. The company plans to complete the second phase of the project in the coming years.

There is a joint intergovernmental Commission on trade, economic, technical and scientific cooperation between the two countries, the meetings of which were held in October 2012 in Dushanbe, January 30 - February 3 in Doha, August 30-31, 2018 in Dushanbe and September 27-28, 2023 in Doha.
