Briefing dedicated to the Second International High-Level Conference dedicated to the International Decade for Action "Water for Sustainable Development, 2018-2028"

On May 12, 2022 the UN Office in Turkey hosted a briefing of the 2nd High-Level International Conference dedicated to the International Decade for Action "Water for Sustainable Development 2018-2028" with the participation of the UN Resident Coordinator in Turkey Mr.Alvaro Rodriguez, Head of the Department of Environment, Climate Change and Transboundary Waters of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Turkey Dr. Adnan Altay Altınorsa, Head of the Department of International Organizations of the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry Shule Özge Imomaglu, Deputy Chairman of the Turkish Water Institute Tugba Evrim Maden, Head of the Department of the Ministry of Environment, Urban Development and Climate Change Esra Ince, representatives of the UN structures in Ankara and more than 160 embassies, international organizations and consulates general of the Republic of Turkey participated online.

The briefing began with opening speeches by the Ambassador of the Republic of Tajikistan to the Republic of Turkey Ashrafjon Gulov, Mr.Alvaro Rodriguez and Dr. Adnan Altay Altynors.

During his speech, Ambassador provided detailed information on the 2nd High-Level International Conference within the framework of the International Decade for Action "Water for Sustainable Development, 2018-2028", which will be held in Dushanbe on June 6-9.

At the same time, Ambassador noted that firstly this initiative was presented by the Leader of the Nation, H.E. Emomali Rahmon, at the 7th World Water Forum on April 12, 2015 in the Republic of Korea and was adopted by the United Nations in unison with more than 190 countries around the world with a special resolution.

According to the relevant UN resolution, the International Decade for Action "Water for Sustainable Development", 2018-2028, has begun on International Water Day, March 22, 2018 and will end on March 22, 2028.

During the briefing, the representative of the Embassy briefed the audience on the content of the 2nd High-Level International Conference in Dushanbe and informed them about the preparation process for the conference, program, concept note and other relevant information about the event.

Also, the participants discussed various aspects of water and climate issues and spoke about its role in the process of preparing for the upcoming UN Conference on the Midterm Review of the Second Water Decade next year.

At the end of the meeting, the Ambassador deliver an interview to the Mass media representatives of the Turkiye about the international water initiatives of the Founder of Peace and National Unity - the Leader of the Nation, the President of the Republic of Tajikistan, H.E. Emomali Rahmon.
