On August 30, 2021, President of the Republic of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon received German Federal Foreign Minister Heiko Maas. There were bilateral issues between Tajikistan and Germany discussed during the meeting as well as relevant problems of regional and international agenda. The main focus of the talks was the complicated and alerting situation in Afghanistan. President of the Republic of Tajikistan once again expressed concern about the complex situation in Afghanistan and its influence on Central Asia. He also noted the position of our country about the current situation and its consequences. Emomali Rahmon stated that one of the factors in stabilizing the situation in Afghanistan is formation of an inclusive government with the participation of the representatives of all ethnic groups. The head of the state mentioned important role of the United Nations and noted that the necessary steps must be taken to form an inclusive government in Afghanistan under the aegis of this Organization and with the active participation of the international community.
According to the President of the Republic of Tajikistan, world powers should not stand aside in such a complicated situation and they should make every effort to stabilize the situation in the neighboring country. Otherwise, Afghanistan could be involved in a protracted civil war. He called for comprehensive and targeted assistance to the people of Afghanistan considering economic and social crisis in this country.
Parties expressed their concern over the possible transformation of Afghanistan into a base for international terrorists and expressed their readiness to fight terrorism, extremism, and transnational crime.
