Around 7 investment projects in the electricity sector are currently being implemented that which one of them is the "Regional Project of the Power Transmission Line CASA-1000". As part of the regional CASA-1000 project, the design, survey, and construction work, the implementation of social and ecological measures as well as the development of a resettlement plan was continued.
As the Deputy Minister of Energy and Water Resources of the Republic of Tajikistan Mr. Jamshed Shoimzoda said during the press conference: “As part of the construction of the convector substation, the earth and concrete work will continue, so far the metal structures of the masts, tie rods and drainage pipes have been delivered to the construction site.
Despite the outbreak of COVID-19 has affected the pace of construction, but construction is currently gaining momentum. So far, more than 30 percent of the construction machinery required for this project, such as special cables, has been imported into the country”.
The construction of the CASA-1000 project in Afghanistan and Pakistan has been announced and construction is expected to be completed in late 2021.
It is noted that the CASA-1000 project includes the power transmission line that will ensure the export of electricity from Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan to Afghanistan and Pakistan. This project will enable the Republic of Tajikistan and the Republic of Kyrgyzstan to export 1,300 MW of annual electricity to the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan and the Islamic Republic of Pakistan.
Experts confirm that the CASA-1000 project is unique and that both exporting and importing countries will benefit from it. If the exporting countries generate good income, the consumer countries will also be supplied with environmentally friendly as well as cheap electricity, which is of great relevance for the development of economic relations and the elimination of the energy shortage.
