On May 5, 2025, the international exhibition of works by the renowned German painter and sculptor, Professor Günther Uecker, titled "Homage to Hafez", was officially opened at the State Institution "National Museum" under the Executive Office of the President of the Republic of Tajikistan. The event was initiated by the Embassy of the Republic of Tajikistan in the Federal Republic of Germany and organized with the support of the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Tajikistan and the National Museum. The exhibition is dedicated to the 700th anniversary of the great Persian-Tajik poet Hafez of Shiraz.
The opening ceremony was attended by and featured speeches from: the Minister of Culture of the Republic of Tajikistan, Matlubakhon Amonzoda Sattoriyon; the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Tajikistan to the Federal Republic of Germany, Imomudin Sattorov; the Director of the National Museum, Zafarsho Safo Ibrohimzoda; the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Federal Republic of Germany to the Republic of Tajikistan, York Schugraf; as well as other official guests.
The exhibition features over 40 visual art pieces along with two examples of decorative and applied art — the bronze sculptures "The Book of Pillows" and "Bread". These works are dedicated to the poetic legacy of Hafez of Shiraz and have previously been displayed in the cities of Shiraz, Tehran, and Düsseldorf.
Professor Günther Uecker is considered one of the most prominent figures in contemporary German art and is a passionate admirer of Hafez’s poetry. With his series "Homage to Hafez", he pays tribute to the deep spiritual and cultural bond between peoples.
The exhibition "Homage to Hafez" will remain on display at the National Museum until July 5, 2025.
